Art as Intermediary

Summary: In this series of essays I will be exploring, generally, the connection between art and society.

There are two overarching types of problems I would like to distinguish. The first is what what and why an individual chooses to purchase or otherwise consume a certain piece over another. I will not be exploring this issue.

The second type of problem addressed in literature is what and why artists, especially successful artists, choose to make and how that fits into this notion of the larger "art world."

I am interested, specifically in how a not-for-profit artist fits into this overall picture that we have of the art world.

Instead I will be discussing the interaction that occur between the artist and society
