Rashomon is an excellent meditation on the nature of justice. I have been trying to go back and find Japanese films from the period 1948- 1952. The idea of a group of people coming to grips with what must have been, after all, a new kind of devastation and doing so in the form of consuming popular media seems very interesting to me.
